Deposits & putting it right
A car is not a thing you can hand back.
Every other Chitemere shop can take an item back and put it on the shelf. A vehicle bought at auction on your behalf, shipped and cleared, cannot go anywhere. So this page is about the moments before that point — and about what we owe you if the car is not what we said it was.

Before you pay a deposit
Nothing is committed while you are browsing, enquiring or comparing. We will give you the landed price in writing — the vehicle, shipping, duty and clearing, all in — before we ask you for anything at all.
Ask us everything at this stage. Mileage, auction grade, accident history, what the inspection sheet says, what it will cost to register. We would far rather answer twenty questions now than argue once the car is on the water.
What your deposit does
For a car already in our stock, the deposit holds it in your name and comes off the price. Change your mind before we take it off the market for you and it comes back in full.
For a car we source to order, the deposit is what we bid with. Once we have won that vehicle at auction it is bought, in your name, and it cannot be un-bought — from that moment the deposit is committed. We will always tell you plainly when that moment is about to arrive, and we will not bid until you say so.
When the deposit comes back in full
- We fail to win the vehicle at auction, or cannot source what we agreed to source.
- The landed price changes from what we quoted, for any reason, and you would rather walk away than accept the new one.
- The vehicle arrives materially different from how it was described to you.
- The car cannot be legally imported or registered here through no fault of yours.
- We miss an agreed delivery window by a margin you are not willing to wait out.
Inspecting it on arrival
Before you accept the vehicle and before the balance is settled, go over it properly. Take somebody mechanical with you if you would rather. Compare it against the inspection sheet and the photographs we sent you.
Anything that does not match what we told you gets resolved then — we repair it, we reduce the price, or we unwind the sale and return your deposit. That choice is yours, not ours.
What we do not promise
These are used vehicles, most with years and kilometres on them. They arrive with the wear you would expect: stone chips, tired trim, brakes and tyres with a finite life left in them. Ordinary wear is not a fault, and we will not pretend otherwise to make a sale.
Unless we have put something in writing as a warranty, a used car is sold as it stands once you have inspected and accepted it. What we do stand behind, absolutely, is that it is the car we described.
After you have taken it
If something we told you turns out to be wrong — the mileage, the grade, the history, an accident repair we did not disclose — that is ours to fix regardless of how long the car has been with you. Come to us.
We will also help with anything registration-related that we handled, whether or not it is strictly our problem to solve.
How to raise it
Message us from the contact page with your order number and what went wrong. A photograph helps and is never required. We answer the same day where we can.
You will not be argued with over small amounts. It costs us more to win that argument than to put it right.
Something here unclear?
Ask us in plain words and you will get a plain answer. Nothing on this page is meant to be a trap.
